Day 1: Arrival Córdoba
Arrive in good time so as to visit the famous "Mezquita" (Grand Mosque). Later, a walk through the old Jewish quarter to see its beautiful patios and have tapas in its inns. Finally, we suggest experiencing an authentic flamenco show to get you ready for a journey which has only just begun.
Day 2: Córdoba- Lucena – Cabra – Zuheros, 27 km, 200 m ascend
You will be collected at your hotel and brought in about 1 hour to the start point of the route at the Greenway of the small town of Lucena. Here the bikes are handed over. Then, you set out on the "Vía Verde" (old reconditioned railway line) to the splendid town of Cabra (after about 12 km), where you can have lunch. Afterwards you take in gentle ascent towards the romantic village of Zuheros. Just 2 km before Zuheros you will sleep in a charming 4-star hotel, a beautiful renovated land house just next to the old railway with a little swimming pool.
Day 3: Zuheros, free day
Today you can cycle to the white washed village of Zuheros and visit the archeological museum. In the museum, you can find artefacts and tools form the Bat Cave!
This famous Cave with drawings from about 5000 years ago can also be visited, you can hike towards it and after the visit come back to Zuheros along the Bailón river!
The cave is located in an extensive karst landscape at an altitude of 980 meters. Speleologists discovered tombs from the middle Paleolithic period, which show evidence of human occupation of the caves 35,000 years ago.
Day 4: Zuheros-Alcaudete, 30 -33 km
Today you will enter in the countryside of Jaén, riding comfortably flat along the "Vía Verde" (old railway line). After passing the station of Luque where you can have a drink in an old wooden train wagon, you continue along the “Laguna del Salobral” (Salt Lake, maybe you can see flamingos!) to the old station of Alcaudete, here is your next optional accommodation depending on the availability, or you continue 3 km more uphill to the castle of Alcuadete, for the next option.
Day 5: Alcaudete-Castillo Locubín (20-23 km), transfer to Alcalá
Today you start on a cycle path climbing to the village of Alcaudete, where you can visit its’ castle (at 11:00). Afterwards, there is some good climbing on unpaved roads and also nice cycling along the San Juan river . In the village of Castillo Locubín you can be collected and brought to the castle of Alcalá called "La Mota", a fortress with its thick walls, imposing towers and the old cathedral built by the reconquering Christians within its confines defending the town of Alcalá. Cycle out of Alcalá to do the last 2km to the rural lodge where Maria will cook a tasty meal for you!
If you want to continue cycling to Alcalá, be prepared for a steep climb out of Castillo Locubín! It is 8 km longer to do the route Castillo Locubín- Alcalá castle.
Be aware that for the complete route to the rural lodge, the cumulative height difference is about 700 meters. You can only do this if your kids are strong enough.
Day 6: Alcalá la Real - Tózar, 13-26 km
After a lovely breakfast you will be brought to the small village of Gumiel. From here you and your kids can enjoy the unpaved path with lots of ups and downs to Limones. They really appreciate the mountain bikes on this stage!
From Limones a narrow tarmac road along the cemetery will bring you to the small village of Tózar. In the familiar hostal Marcelo will wait for you, while his wife and daughter will cook you a real Spanish meal.
If you want to do the complete route (26 km) be aware some busier tarmac roads are involved, and the cumulative height difference would be 580 meters.
Day 7: Transfer to Granada
Directly after breakfast a taxi will bring you to your hotel in Granada.
Spend all day to walk around, and maybe visit the Alhambra (tickets not included)
Day 8: Granada, fin
After breakfast, your tour will be finished
